Construction of the new WAIMR research headquarters at the QE II Medical centre is having an increased visual impact as it rises above the work site. The slab for the first floor is being poured this week and the central lift cores now extend to the fourth floor level.
"It's quite impressive to see the way the building is growing now," said WAIMR Director, Peter Klinken.
"When you compare the WAIMR structure with the size of the adjacent Pathwest building, which will be completed in about six months, you can see that WA's medical research hub is going to be quite a striking feature within the QE II redevelopment."
WAIMR's offices, state of the art laboratories and public meeting areas will be housed in the ten storey building, which is still on target to be completed in 2013.
"Doric contractors will take a short break over Christmas, then it's back to putting the formwork up on the level 2 slab," said the building's Project Director, Trevor Dunn.
"We don't envisage there'll be any major noise, vibrations or dust during this forthcoming activity," he said.
