Peter Klinken's ABC: PET Scanner

The Western Australian Institute for Medical Research's Director, Peter Klinken, has spoken publicly about the exciting news that the Institute has received a $2.4 million grant from the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, which will be used for a PET scanner to provide images of developing tumours in pre-clinical models.

The funding followed extensive collaboration from a team of medical professionals and top researchers including: Professor Ruth Ganss, Professor Peter Klinken, Professor Peter Leedman, Professor Christobel Saunders, Professor David Sampson and Professor Ursula Kees.

Professor Klinken spoke on ABC 720 Local Radio to Sharon Greenock, who was filling in for Gillian O'Shaughnessy on the afternoon program, about the opportunities for cancer research which will be possible once the new equipment is in Perth.

Over the past few months, Professor Klinken has been established as a regular guest on 720 ABC Local Radio, in the afternoon time slot.

Professor Klinken, who started his broadcast work whilst on sabbatical this year, will continue his fortnightly radio chats in 2011, bringing listeners up to date with the latest in medical research in Western Australia and around the world.

As well as the latest segment about the PET scanner, the popular radio segments have also focused on the work of West Australian medical researchers who are making advances in the treatment of leukaemia and melanoma.
