Two of Western Australia's top cancer researchers will feature in interviews on 98.5 Sonshine FM, when radio announcer Rodney Olsen cycles from Albany to Perth next week. (November 15).

The keen cyclist visited the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research in Perth to interview Professor Ruth Ganss and Dr Mitali Manzur about their work, and take a tour of the Laboratory for Angiogenesis and Tumour Immunology.

WAIMR Principal Research fellow Professor Ganss explained that the team's research focused on shinking the blood vessels which surround and feed tumours, while Research Officer Dr Mitali said her ultimate goal when starting science was to help people.

The WAIMR team said that although a cancer cure is not expected within the next few years, research and work towards more targeted drugs and therapies were progressing quickly.

The interviews will be part of a radio feature on cancer, with Rodney Olsen broadcasting from a different Western Australian town each morning from 9am, then jumping on his bike with six other cyclists to travel to the next spot. He'll also be talking to local people whose lives have been touched by cancer when he broadcasts from each town.

The team will start in Albany on the 15th of November, will be in Cranbrook on Tuesday, Katanning on Wednesday, Wagin on Thursday, Pingelly on Friday and finish in York on Saturday the 20th of November.

The ride will also raise funds for the Cancer Council of WA.
