The Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre (SKMRC) is thrilled to announce it will in 2010 again be supported by one of WA's premier golfing events.

The Centre has been chosen as the beneficiary of this year's WA Open Golf Championship's charity auction.

Part of the Nedlands-based Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR), the SKMRC was established in 2005 in memory of Scott Kirkbride, a talented Cottesloe Golf Club member and WA Golf Association staff member who tragically lost his life to melanoma at the age of 27.

Scott joined the Cottesloe Golf Club at age 14 and took out his first trophy at 16.

Then, from the age of 22, he won the Club championship at Cottesloe four years in a row.

"Golf was such an important part of Scotty's life and we know he'd be thrilled that his beloved sport is helping keep the Centre's vital melanoma research activities going," said SKMRC founder and Scott's mother Yvonne Kirkbride.

The WA Open will be held at the West Australian Golf Club in Yokine from Thursday October 28 to Sunday October 31.
