Key Appointment & Change for Medical Research Institute

Tony Spezzacatena has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of the State's premier adult medical research institute, the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR).

In the newly-created role, Mr Spezzacatena will lead WAIMR's finance team, being responsible for the overall financial management of the Institute.

Having previously been the Director of Finance at St John of God Hospital in Murdoch, as well as a former Company Director of Murdoch Surgicentre, he brings leadership experience and extensive knowledge of the health industry.

WAIMR Director Peter Klinken said he was delighted to welcome Mr Spezzacatena to the team.

"Tony's experience and professionalism will no doubt assist the Institute to reach its goals, including the development of our two new research buildings, and we're thrilled someone of his calibre has joined our growing organisation," he said.

Mr Spezzacatena holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and is a Chartered Accountant.

In other developments, WAIMR Business Development Officer John Fitzgerald has been made Director of Operations.

Mr Fitzgerald - who holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from The University of Western Australia - has been with the Institute for the past three-and-a-half years.
