Mr Tony Hume
WA's premier adult medical research institute, the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR), has appointed Tony Hume to a newly-created role.
Mr Hume, who has extensive management experience over 17 years spanning commercial and education roles, has become WAIMR's Manager for Organisational Advancement with responsibility for directing and managing the institutes fundraising activities.
He comes to the institute from Edith Cowan University where he spent seven years in marketing, development and commercial services positions that included directing the insitution's first public capital fundraising campaign for the Vario Health Institute.
He is currently completing his Masters in Business Administration and has served as a member of the state executive of the Fundraising Institute of Australia. He is currently Australasian Vice President and State President of the Association of Development and Alumni Professionals in Education.
In 2004 and 2006, Mr Hume was a WA Business News 40 under 40 nominee.
As well, the Institute has appointed Sue van Leeuwen as Chief Executive Officer of the WAIMR-based National Research Centre for Asbestos-Related Diseases.
Dr van Leeuwen has most recently held the role of Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Management with the School of Business at The University of Notre Dame Australia.
She was also the inaugural Faculty Manager of the South West Campus of Edith Cowan University and has more than 20 years experience in the health care sector, including holding the position of Manager Primary Health Care in the South West of Western Australia.
She has an MBA and a Business Doctorate.
