A Tribute to Harry Perkins

The inaugural WAIMR Chairman, the late Harry Perkins, was the driving force behind the formation of the Institute.

He believed that without a high quality research environment in WA, it would be difficult to recruit (and retain) the best Doctors and that, as a consequence, service delivery to the community would inevitably suffer.

His vision and passion not only inspired our founding partners to affiliate, but he also worked tirelessly to secure funding to establish WAIMR. It was his commitment to WAIMR that saw Wesfarmers inject five $5 million dollars over a five-year period to establish the Institute.

The Board and staff of WAIMR and the West Australian medical research community are hugely indebted to Harry for his extraordinary contribution to medical research, as well as his breathtaking energy, enthusiasm and generosity.
